Although there is a strong need in the Mediterranean area (exposed to seismic hazard, harsh environmental conditions, sometimes humidity or salinity…) for more efficient restoration solutions for structural problems of cultural heritage, today no suitable integrated solution, specifically adapted to historical buildings exists. One way often used is to replace the materials when the buildings are too weak or not suitable for tourism and other activities. However, this leads to cultural irreversible loss. As such, this method should be limited to critical cases.
